Форум русскоязычного еврейства Канады (CRJ Forum) совместно с Оздоровительным центром "ЛаБриут Канада" (HCLC) запускает новую программу для пожилых людей – "Ресорт ЛаБриут".
Цель программы – поддержка и укрепление ментального и физического здоровья пожилых людей. Каждый участник получает БЕСПЛАТНУЮ путёвку в оздоровительный центр "ЛаБриут Канада", которая включает:
- Трёхчасовое пребывание в центре
- 3–4 оздоровительные процедуры, включая 1 массаж
- Тренинг по профилактике ментальных расстройств и консультацию по питанию
Отбор участников и назначение процедур осуществляет доктор Владимир Шифрин. В течение всего пребывания в центре участники находятся под наблюдением квалифицированного персонала. Для всех гостей предусмотрены лёгкие угощения.
Адрес центра: 12-1416 Centre St, Thornhill (рядом с рестораном "Арбат"). Удобный доступ к общественному транспорту по улицам Centre St. и Dufferin St.

Часть выставки предоставлена известным израильским фотографом Александром Ханиным (Alexander Khanin).
Александр Ханин — израильский фотограф, театральный фотограф, фотожурналист, известный также как «Деда Саша»
В качестве фотокорреспондента участвовал в десятках международных выставок, фестивалей и конференций, а также съёмке политических деятелей и мероприятий.
После начала войны с ХАМАСом в 2023 году снимал последствия резни на музыкальном фестивале «Supernova Sukkot Gathering», в киббуцах Реим, Нир-Оз, Кфар-Аза, Беэри и Авшаломе, последствия обстрелов в Кирьят-Шмоне, а также обстановку на северной границе Израиля, подвергающейся обстрелам Хезболлы.
Александр Ханин является членом ассоциации журналистов Израиля, журналистом пресс-офиса правительства Израиля, членом ассоциации художников Израиля, неоднократным участником и лауреатом международных конкурсов театральной фотографии, лауреатом премии «Человек года» 2017 года журнала Glamur в номинации «Фотограф года», а также призёром всеизраильского конкурса фотографии в 2022 году. Занял первое место в категории «Движение в искусстве» на международном фотоконкурсе «Театр в фотообъективе» (2023) за фото балета «Сон в летнюю ночь» в постановке Дортмундского театра балета, показанной в Оперном театре имени Шломо Лахата в Тель-Авиве.

On the occasion of the Jewish New Year, Canadian Forum of Russian-Speaking Jewry and Israeli-Canadian culinary maven Galya Sarner are offering a special cooking workshop featuring Israeli-Mediterranean cuisine. It will include the following tasty Israeli treats:
- Bereshit salad with organic arugula, endive, figs, pomegranates, pecans in silan (date honey) and pine nuts
- Labaneh with olive oil and fresh herbs

Или наслаждение отсоприкосновения с великим? Спектр чувств, которые вызывает в нас искусство-огромен. Мы посмотрим на самые скандальные картины середины хiх – хх вв., попробуем разобраться в своих чувствах , и, главное, ответить на вопрос : Ктоназначил это шедевром?
Зачем ходить в музеи и смотреть картины? Почему,заходя в музей, я вижу на стенах картины с полосками, квадратами икругами. Этовсе что-то значит, или художник не умеет нормально рисовать? Надо лиобъяснять картины или можно просто включить режим « нравится- не нравится»?Почему « Черный квадрат» -это шедевр? Я сам так нарисую!
Если вы ходите музеи ( любите их или нелюбите) и хоть раз задавали себе эти вопросы- вам сюда. Мы пройдемся по самымзнаковым картинам хх века, попробуем ответить на часть вопросов, часть так иостанутся без ответа, и, я надеюсь, возникнут новые.

Pesach (Passover)
SEDER PLATE:
- Matzah - three matzot are placed on top of each other on a plate or napkin. The matzot are symbolic of the three groups of Jews: Priests, Levites and Israelites.
- Zeroa—a shank bone (or a chicken neck) to remember the Paschal sacrifice.
- Beitzah—A cooked egg, representing sacrifice (it's also been suggested that while most foods soften when you cook them, eggs get harder, representing the resolve of the Jewish people)
- Maror and hazeret - bitter herbs (often horseradish for maror and something like romaine for hazeret) to represent the bitterness of slavery
- Haroset—a sweet mix of fruits, nuts, and honey/wine that symbolizes the mortar used by Jews during their slavery
- Karpas—a green vegetable signifying new life

The two "parent’s day” holidays are low key celebrations introduced to Canada in the early 20 century. Children of all ages are expected to show their parent some love with a small gift or card, and a day full of caring, attentive behavior. - Shavuot, which means "Festival of Weeks,” is just one name for the holiday. It also goes by Harvest Festival (Chag HaKatzir), Day of the First Fruits (Yom Habikurim), The Stoppage/Restrain (Atzeret – a reference the sages use to highlight the prohibition against work on this day), and Time of the Giving of the Torah (Z’man Matan Torah).
- Shavuot is the only Jewish holiday with a dairy menu. The Bible refers to Israel as "the land of milk and honey,” and Shavuot puts the country’s world-famous dairy in the spotlight.
- Get your water guns and buckets … Shavuot is all about water fights, presumably because the Torah is often likened to water. In many Israeli cities, children gather for impromptu water-gun and water-balloon wars in the streets, public squares and parks.
- Staying awake all night is not just for the teenagers. For centuries, it has been customary to study through the night as payback for the Israelites’ error in oversleeping on the morning they were supposed to receive the Torah.

Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, is a fall holiday,taking place at the beginning of the month of Tishrei, which is actually theseventh month of the Jewish year (counting from Nisan in the spring). It isboth a time of rejoicing and of serious introspection, a time to celebrate thecompletion of another year while also taking stock of one’s life.
The two days of Rosh Hashanah usher in the Ten Days of Repentance (Aseret Yemei Teshuvah), also known as the Days of Awe (YamimNoraim), which culminate in the major fast day of Yom Kippur, the Day ofAtonement. The Days of Awe represent the climax of a longer process. Startingat the beginning of the previous month, called Elul, the shofar istraditionally sounded at the conclusion of the morning service. A ram’s hornthat makes a trumpet-like sound, the shofar is intended as a wake-up call toprepare for the Tishrei holidays. One week before Rosh Hashanah, specialpetitionary prayers called Selichot are added to the ritual. Rosh Hashanahitself is also known as Yom Hadin or the Day of Judgment, on which God opensthe Books of Life and Death, which are then sealed on Yom Kippur.
The origins of Rosh Hashanah may be sought in a royalenthronement ritual from biblical times, though the Bible itself never mentionsthe "New Year” or "Day of Judgment” aspects of the holiday. Eventhough Rosh Hashanah falls in the seventh month, later rabbinic traditiondecided to designate it the beginning of the year. Although the origin of thistradition may have been adopted from the Babylonians, the rabbis imbued it withJewish significance as the anniversary of the day on which the world wascreated, or of the day on which humanity was created. Another explanation canbe found in the significance of Tishrei as the seventh month, hence the Sabbathof the year.
The challah (traditional bread) that is eaten for the RoshHashanah season is round, symbolizing the eternal cycle of life. The challah istraditionally dipped in honey, symbolizing the hopes for a sweet New Year. Thesame is done with apples, which are made even sweeter with the addition ofhoney. Some people avoid eating nuts at this time, since according to asomewhat convoluted gematria (mystical numerical interpretation) the Hebrewwords for nut (egoz) and sin (het) have the same numerical value.
